Staff Relation Issues
The Staff Relations functions supplements the labour relations context at the University. If you run into issues, have concerns or unsure about how rules/collective agreements/policies pertain to you, you can speak to me confidentially, about any matter. I can assist you with job description and job evaluation concerns. I serve frequently as a mediator or facilitator for conflict resolution matters on campus. If you find yourself stuck in a situation of frustration or conflict, please contact me directly. The objective is to help you resolve matters yourself, and, where possible, prevent matters from spiraling towards major grievance or dispute.

Personal Development and Skills Building - There is s a limited budget to support training and development initiatives for employees who are:
-
full time
-
funded by operations or ancillary funds,
-
staff/management employees (not faculty)
This budget does not support travel, accommodation or related costs, but will help support registration costs for professional development conferences, seminars or courses that are related to your position and where it can be shown that participation.will enhance your function. In some circumstances, your supervisor may fund the travel/accommodation component from their budget, to support attendance.
We may also support course registration for programmes related to your work. This does not include books, materials or other related cost.
The free tuition subsidy process for courses taken at Laurentian is handled through the Finance Department. Please contact Huguette Robidas at ext 3046 or via email at hrobidas@laurentian.ca
In all cases, requests for support for training and development must be requested, in writing via email, in advance. Approval is subject to budget availability, and assessment of how this will enhance your function. Supervisory approval must also be obtained for courses that take place during regular working time. Various collective agreements and policies for non unionized staff also govern these issues. I will be happy to answer questions specific to your situation personally. Do not hesitate to contact me directly.
