Séminaires
On November 6, Dr. Norman Yan (York University, Toronto, ON and MOE) presented a seminar entitled "Complexities in the ecological recovery of lakes from acidification." He was invited by Dr. C. Ramcharan.
Timo Kamminga (an exchange student from the Univ. of Amsterdam) and Kierann Santala (Laurentian U) co-presented a seminar entitled "Ecological and landscape vulnerability assessment on the subtropical and tropical islands of Tenerife and Mauritius," on December 9. They were invited by Dr. P. Ryser.
On November 23, Dr. Yves Alarie talked about "Water beetle larval characters in phylogeny reconstruction: Contrasting adult and molecular character datasets." He was invited by Dr. J. Litzgus.
Dr. Bob Friedman (U of South Carolina, Columbia, SC) presented a seminar entitled "Computational approaches studying genome evolution" on November 30. The seminar was co-hosted with the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the speaker was invited by Dr. T. Merritt.
On December 7, Dr. David Kreutzweiser (Research Scientist, Aquatic Ecotoxicology, Great Lakes Forestry Centre, Sault Ste. Marie, ON) gave a seminar entitled "Logging impact on biogeochemical processes and nutrient export in boreal forest soils." He was invited by Dr. J. Gunn.

The University recently announced that Drs D. Lesbarreres and A. Schulte-Hostedde from Biology, along with Dr. T. Merritt from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, were successful in their CFI (Canada Foundation for Inovation) application through the Leaders Opportunity Fund. Their project (Laboratory for Molecular, Ecological and Evolutionary Genetics) is for a total of $327 944, of which $131 178 will be from CFI.
