Seminars
On June 19, Dr. Ewa Cholewa (Nipissing University, North Bay, ON) presented a seminar entitled, "Anatomy and physiology of cotton sedge (Eriophorum vaginatum), a potential phytoremediator of polluted wetlands in the Northern Hemisphere."

Five Biology master’s students receive scholarships
The Department of Biology recently presented scholarships to five master’s students:

M.Sc. student Ashley Tremblay received a $5,000 Fisheries and Oceans Canada Habitat & Restoration Scholarship from her supervisor Dr. John Gunn, on behalf of Carl Jorgensen (absent).

M.Sc. student Valarie St. Amour (centre) received the Ruffed Grouse Society Wildlife and Conservation Bursary, valued at $1,500, from Dr. Peter Ryser, vice-chairman, Biology (left) and her supervisor, Dr. David Lesbarrères (right).

M.Sc. students Anne Kidd (2nd from left) and Vanessa Bonanno (absent) each received the Sudbury Game & Fish Protective Association Bursary, valued at $500 from executive member Henry Frodl (left), association president Bert Legault, and their supervisor, Dr. Albrecht Schulte-Hostedde (right).
